Kids on a Mission
The primary mission of the Hesperia Sheriff's Explorer Program is to educate and mentor youth and provide in-depth firsthand experience in the field of Law Enforcement. The program serves as a potential recruitment tool for future men and women in Law Enforcement and as a community relations effort between the Sheriff's Department, the youth and the community as a whole.
The Hesperia Police Department’s Explorer Post is one of the largest and most active in the County. Its 19 members volunteer in a wide variety of community events, including:
- Instructional exercises
- Ride-alongs
- Competitions
- Hesperia Days Parade
- National Night Out
- Jolly Parade
The Post also regularly schedules team building events for its members including:
- Explorer competitions in Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga
- Annual Hesperia Halloween Event and Haunted House
- Shop with a Cop
Qualifications:
- Age 14 through age 20
- A legal resident of the U.S.
- Have parental or guardian approval (under 18)
- Enrolled or graduated from High School
- Be of good health
- Be of good moral habits / character with no arrest or convictions record
- Have and maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average ("C" average) or better in school work
- No pending misdemeanor or felony court cases.
