Active Volunteers
Citizen Volunteer Units are utilized throughout the county to assist the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in meeting law enforcement objectives during the normal course of operation as well as times of disasters and emergencies.
The Hesperia Police Department’s Citizens On Patrol unit (COPs) provides a wide range of services to the community including:
- Neighborhood patrol
- Vacation checks (Extra Patrols)
- Traffic and parking control at community events
- Traffic control during collision/major incident investigations
They also perform many administrative functions within the police department including:
- Inter-office mail delivery
- Operation of the department’s incident command center during critical law enforcement incidents
A very vibrant group of volunteers, the Hesperia COP Unit currently has 27 members.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a legal U.S. resident
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
- Pass an oral interview
- Pass a background investigation.
Requirements:
- Monthly business meeting
- Minimum one monthly training session
- Donate a minimum of 8 hours per month
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
- Attend the Citizen Volunteer Academy training course.
